Job Description
FX is looking for an experienced Director of Photography. The Director of Photography plays a crucial role in the production process. They are responsible for overviewing the entire production with the directors, by managing multiple teams on set, such as the lighting/ gaffers right to the camera operators. Making sure every frame is being maximized to its fullest potential and pushing what is possible during the production process.
Responsibilities
- Organize, Communicate and Assemble: Organize the overall production crew on set, communicate with the right personale at the time of the production to ensure each project goes smoothly.
- Collaborate with Creative Team: Work closely with directors, producers, and other team members to understand project requirements and deliver content that meets creative and technical standards.
- Implement Feedback: Receive revisions from the directors of FX Productions Canada and implement them promptly.
- Manage Media Assets: Organize and manage all media assets, ensuring all files are properly stored and backed up for easy access and retrieval with the assistance of a data management specialist while on set.
- Handle Multiple Projects: Manage multiple projects aspects of the production simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery by ensuring our crew does not go into overtime when it can be avoided, without compromising the quality of the output.
- Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot technical issues that arise during the editing process and find creative solutions to maintain the project timeline.
Requirements and Skills
- Proven Experience: Must have at least 5+ years of demonstrated experience as a Director of Photography with a strong portfolio showcasing previous work.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in various camera systems, such as Sony, Canon, RED Camera and ARRI.
- Creativity and Storytelling: Strong creative skills with an eye for symmetry and good picture detail, ensuring there is complete balance and overall composure to each frame.
- Understanding of Post-Production: In-depth knowledge of the post-production process, including sound editing and design, color correction and grading, and special effects.
- Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication skills are required to work effectively with the creative team and the directors of FX Productions Canada.
- Time Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple creatives on set projects and meet tight time frames whilst on set.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during the editing process.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail to ensure quality and consistency in all video outputs.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and feedback.
- Educational Background: A degree or diploma in film studies, cinematography, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Passion for the Industry: A passion for video production and a continuous desire to learn and implement new techniques.
